Man hat schon länger nichts mehr von der GEMA gehört. Seit längerem gab es keine Nachrichten mehr, dass man die eigenen Kunden verklage noch dass man gegen die vielfältigen Tauschmöglichkeiten im Internet aktiv werde. Anstatt endlich mal mit einem überzeugendem Konzept dem aktuellem
Marktumfeld zu begegnen, liest man wieder so was bei Golem: Gema geht wieder gegen Usenet vor. Eswird hübsch versucht ein Exempel statuieren. Der Kampf gegen Windmühlen wird fortgesetzt. Man versucht wieder mal eine konkrete "Tauschbörse" dicht zu machen. Was passiert, wenn die Aktion erfolgreich sein wird? Es gibt anstatt einer größeren, überschaubaren Tauschbörse dann viele Tauschbörsen die man nicht mehr so einfach einschätzen und verfolgen kann. Bei Nichterfolg wird Usenext das nur mehr Kunden bringen. Die Gema kann nur verlieren.
Letztendlich wird die Aktion wohl ähnlich viel Einfluss auf die Zukunft der Musikindustrie haben wie der sprichwörtlich in China umfallende Sack Reis.
update: Die GEMA hat gewonnen und Usenext darf 100 bestimmte Lieder nicht mehr "anbieten" schreibt heise.de unter Verwertungsgesellschaft GEMA meldet neuen juristischen Erfolg gegen UseNeXT. Der Witz an der Sache ist aber, dass jeden Tag neue Lieder rauskommen und die GEMA wohl bald wieder langwierig klagen muss.

Dataloss by hosteurope

Just a few day ago the host system for my virtual server at hosteurope had an unrecoverable raid-error...
Fortunately i trigged a backup a few hours before the crash in virtuzzo. Hosteurope was unable to handle a hard drive failure in the raid, all data on the production server has been lost. They restored my last backup. The backup was unbootable. What has happened? The backup function in virtuzzo changes/removes files in the backup. I customized the system to gentoo while still having a template for debian. I installed in the virtual machine postfix and dropbear. In the restored backup there exists now exim-user, a openssh-daemon was running, there was a x11-init-script and some folders under /var/lib disappeared. The directory for the runlevel has been deleted by virtuzzo. The support from hosteurope says to that all only: "You used an unsupported operating system. Because of virtualization there can happen things you noticed". A backup which modifies files is unsusable for production use. So i canceled the vps at hosteurope and i'm just migrating everything to my new provider netcup.de. I had some problems to install gentoo on their real linux vserver, but i found some very good tips for this on Gentoo on a linux-vserver partition with wrong initstyle. Fortunately again, that entry has been published on the same day i moved to netcup.de.
I will also switch the blog software from serendity to nucleus dotclear. While not having reimported the old entries to nucleus, the old blog is still available under blog.old.

MCS is a nice website to loose time. Especially you will loose time while searching for free/good streets. So i wrote a little utility for scanning for free streets. Enjoy it!

Perhaps blogging is out and twitter is in. I will try twitter and hope, i will post more on that.
